The Land Rover G4 Challenge is a four week competition in a unique mix of driving, adventure sports and strategic planning. 16 contestants chosen from every continent of the world competed in four consecutive week-long challenges that took place across a diverse global platform starting in New York, South Africa, Australia and the US West Coast.

Horton Ella Communications consulted on the media management plan for the G4 Challenge and produced daily media information on a reverse time schedule to other locations. Careful daily media targeting, notice of video news releases and placement of the 2x1 hour television specials resulted in outstanding coverage of the event for Land Rover.

Horton Ella Communications also consulted on media management for the Land Rover 7x7x7 Challenge in aid of the British Heart Foundation. The challenge was for the world’s greatest living explorer, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, and Dr Mike Stroud to run seven marathons in seven days on seven continents.

A major event challenge occurred when a flight delay changed the schedule after the first marathon in Antarctica.

For Horton Ella Communications and Land Rover across the world, the immediate challenge became feeding the story without the aid of a video news crew and with constant location and schedule changes in the other six continents to come.

The event was a triumph of the human spirit when, then 59 year old Ranulph Fiennes, finished on time following marathon runs in the Falklands, South America, Sydney, Singapore, Cairo, London and finally, New York. For Land Rover it was a logistical feat and a media success beyond all expectations.
